I volunteer for my kids' schools and PTO, I have a rescue dog and two rescue cats, and participate in Relay for Life and Livestrong events every summer. I would rather be "making memories" for my children than doing almost anything else.
People often make judgments on first glance and have to be convinced otherwise by interacting with the person a while. And some people don't even interact, so changing their mind isn't even an option. That's sad.

My husband and I are Foster Parents. We provide a safe, stable, happy home for those children who may not be as fortunate and in the process teach our own children to be tolerate and the benefits of giving back.
It's a good cause and I like what it stands for. I've been judged wrongly because I'm shy, because I choose to have tattoos, because I was young when I had my boys. It's no fun to be judged on outwards appearances.

I launched a non-profit called The Learning Hub in an effort to increase STEAM accessibility through the revitalization of local libraries and provide a free, interactive learning experience for children as young as 6 years old.

Good deeds can stem from holding a door to picking up trash. As a retired New York City science teacher I tried each day to bring excitement of learning to my students. Often this took great patience and empathy. I sincerely hope that I instilled possibilities for their future in their hearts and minds. A compliment can instill confidence. It is a very simple good deed with immense power.
I participated on a very hot day in Worcester, Massachusetts. I was with my six year old granddaughter and wanted her to not feel shy so I decided to jump right in when asked. The word evil was interesting. I wasn't sure what it was all about and was curious. What the hell!

To show people that you can NEVER judge a book by its cover. I want to show my two daughters that they can be proud of who they are, no matter what others say or how they may be judged. Hopefully, when they are older, they won't be discouraged by being different and independent.

As a teacher of students with disabilities, I make sure that everyday I provide my students with the support, resources, and the care they need in order to ensure their personal growth and academic success. Being part of my students' growth and success is very rewarding and it is one of the reasons why I love my job so much. As a mother, and as a professional Latina woman, I want to be a role model for my sons and students. I want them to know that with motivation, dedication, and effort dreams and goals can be achieved.
